Early 2016, me and team was bussy working on our first order. It was 50 pcs #sashiko folded cluth and 50 pcs #crossstitch accordion wallet. It was also the first time for us studying #sashiko.
Everything new. I love collecting craft book and learn something new. And as I rarely have craft tutor, I need a book that give me enough information, from A to Z. My first #sashiko book was by Susan Briscoe. And the order of making 50 pcs #sashiko folded clutch "push" me to read my #sashiko book.. haha
In the middle of our work, a friend offer me to register to SMESCO it's a government institution that has the task of developing SME. So after fill the form i went to the office with some samples to be curated. i was told to wait a week or more for the result.
Exactly a week after that i was told to come for a meeting to get to know the result. I was almost reject to come, as for me there was no need to come if only to get the result. But ibu Carry push me to come. She remind me It's an important meeting. Soooo I had to reschedule all my appoitment for that day.
I didnt remember the date. But I remember I came early, because I plan to leave the meeting asap. That meeting was really a surprise for me. We were told that everyone invited to that meeting was pass curation for Indonesia Fashion Week 2016. The curator will come to check our sample. It was the first time i met Samuel Watimenna the curator, he's a famous fashion designer.
Suddenly the meeting became verrrrry interesting. We display our product. The curator check and gaves input to improve. We were excited to hear the input as we have to make some changes for the exhibition. Some only make little some have lots of homework. Me in the last category. My samples were tunic and embroidery bags. All tunic rejected, and for bags I need to change color into more brighter one. And I was told to come to next meeting.
Next meeting was much much more interesting. I still remember the brief.. IFW is fashion, fashion always follow trend. Trend include color and material. So i was told to search color trend and trend 2016. First mas Sammy asked me to change my embroidery into Sashiko - a japanese style of embroidery, then change the threads color - follow color trend 2016...then change the fabric - use denim only and Tan leather for combination. So its totally change the product. I only have 3 weeks time left till the due date. I feel excited and wanna cry at the same time. I knew i had not enough time ..ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
I asked to leave the meeting early, i run to a big fabric market..with my lugage full of threads - to buy denim. Then i run back home. Next day.. with a full head thiking how to finish my job ... i talked with my team. I asked them to gave full energy to do this project. My team were mothers with toddler...they had to manage time between taking care their kids, house work and doing the embroidery homework. But they were really tough mothers. They helped me alot!
I still remember my conversation with mas Sam..
Mas i have not enough time to make all these ..
Why, you can't do it?
Not like that, it's totally new, and all handstitch..
If you can not make big bag, then make small one. If small one still can not, then make clutch. Clutch like mine. Here, the size and model exactly like this. You can copy.
Ok, but am not sure if I can make big quantity
No problem. Try as best as you can. But do as I brief you.
He really took no as the asnwer. It was really a hectic 3 weeks. I found out that marking pattern on denim was not easy. We need to remarking pattern again and again. Need bigger threads and bigger needdle also. Marking pattern straight on fabric was a problem because too many mistake and can not do fast. So I try to make on paper then copy on fabric. It was really a stressfull trial and error time, because we need to think work fast.
While my team work on embroidery, I need to find someone who can stitch Clutch. And need a very good one. Unfortunatelly a friend of my husband help me. Right on time! With a very tight time, I can made 38 pcs Sashiko Clutch. Finished 2 days before D day. Wooooow, I made it!!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
